Using Natire and Skin Care In The Fight Against Wrinkles

The beauty and cosmetics industry is huge, estimated to be worth more than $60 billion, with predictions for continued yearly growth. A big part of that industry is the prevention of wrinkles. In fact, millions of dollars are invested each year in research directed at discovering a cure for wrinkles. The demand for this cure is driven by an aging world population; a population that also has increasingly demonstrated a marked preference for natural remedies over artificial ones. Indeed, there are many remedies for wrinkles to be found in nature as well as many self-help treatments. One of the best ways to fight wrinkles, and many other ailments that sometimes plague us, is by abstaining from certain foods and activities. A healthful, well-balanced diet made from natural ingredients instead of chemicals, preservatives and other artificial additives, will aid in the skin regeneration process and help reduce wrinkles. Some of the natural ways to prevent and eliminate wrinkles are explored below.

1. Reduce sugar consumption. Avoid drinks high in added sugar, as well as candies, cookies and other sweets. Too much sugar consumption causes an increase in blood sugar levels, which, in turn, triggers a process called glycation. Glycation is a cellular inflammation that fosters free radical formation, which destroys collagen and elastin (the connective fibers in our skin). As a result, we get wrinkles.

2. Don’t smoke. We tend to think of smoking as bad for the lungs, but it is bad for our bodies all around, including our skin. Smoking causes skin discoloration, wrinkles, dryness and other skin problems.

3. Limit sunlight exposure. Sunlight, in limited amounts is not only good for us, but also necessary for our bodies to create Vitamin D. Too much, however, is damaging to our skin and destroys its connective fibers, resulting in premature wrinkling.

4. Avoid excessive amounts of processed and packaged foods. These foods contain large amounts of preservatives and sodium that are harmful to our skin.

5. Do include the following ingredients when preparing meals:

a. Olive oil – believed to be an excellent anti-wrinkle agent, good at reducing wrinkles and improving our complexion.
b. Tomatoes – contain lycopene which helps prevent cancer and wrinkles
c. Beets – have a high iron content and also help fight wrinkles.
d. Vegetables, fruits and foods rich in antioxidants – these should all be part of your arsenal in the battle against wrinkles. All of them are rich in natural vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, E, beta carotene, and selenium. Examples of these foods include oranges, grapefruits, blueberries, broccoli, brown rice, carrots, chicken, mango, pineapple, salmon, spinach, tuna, and whole grains.

6. Increase water consumption. In spite of its many health benefits, which include helping us to get rid of wrinkles, most people do not drink enough water. Studies have shown that drinking at least eight glasses of water a day not only improves our complexion, but also helps delay the aging process and promote better health.
