Using Natire and Skin Care In The Fight Against Wrinkles

The beauty and cosmetics industry is huge, estimated to be worth more than $60 billion, with predictions for continued yearly growth. A big part of that industry is the prevention of wrinkles. In fact, millions of dollars are invested each year in research directed at discovering a cure for wrinkles. The demand for this cure is driven by an aging world population; a population that also has increasingly demonstrated a marked preference for natural remedies over artificial ones. Indeed, there are many remedies for wrinkles to be found in nature as well as many self-help treatments. One of the best ways to fight wrinkles, and many other ailments that sometimes plague us, is by abstaining from certain foods and activities. A healthful, well-balanced diet made from natural ingredients instead of chemicals, preservatives and other artificial additives, will aid in the skin regeneration process and help reduce wrinkles. Some of the natural ways to prevent and eliminate wrinkles are explored below.

1. Reduce sugar consumption. Avoid drinks high in added sugar, as well as candies, cookies and other sweets. Too much sugar consumption causes an increase in blood sugar levels, which, in turn, triggers a process called glycation. Glycation is a cellular inflammation that fosters free radical formation, which destroys collagen and elastin (the connective fibers in our skin). As a result, we get wrinkles.

2. Don’t smoke. We tend to think of smoking as bad for the lungs, but it is bad for our bodies all around, including our skin. Smoking causes skin discoloration, wrinkles, dryness and other skin problems.

3. Limit sunlight exposure. Sunlight, in limited amounts is not only good for us, but also necessary for our bodies to create Vitamin D. Too much, however, is damaging to our skin and destroys its connective fibers, resulting in premature wrinkling.

4. Avoid excessive amounts of processed and packaged foods. These foods contain large amounts of preservatives and sodium that are harmful to our skin.

5. Do include the following ingredients when preparing meals:

a. Olive oil – believed to be an excellent anti-wrinkle agent, good at reducing wrinkles and improving our complexion.
b. Tomatoes – contain lycopene which helps prevent cancer and wrinkles
c. Beets – have a high iron content and also help fight wrinkles.
d. Vegetables, fruits and foods rich in antioxidants – these should all be part of your arsenal in the battle against wrinkles. All of them are rich in natural vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, E, beta carotene, and selenium. Examples of these foods include oranges, grapefruits, blueberries, broccoli, brown rice, carrots, chicken, mango, pineapple, salmon, spinach, tuna, and whole grains.

6. Increase water consumption. In spite of its many health benefits, which include helping us to get rid of wrinkles, most people do not drink enough water. Studies have shown that drinking at least eight glasses of water a day not only improves our complexion, but also helps delay the aging process and promote better health.

Choosing the Best Skin Care Products for Men

Today, awareness about our appearance as well as our health plays a much bigger role in our lives than it did in the lives of our ancestors. On the other hand, unlike our ancestors, today we are faced with the deleterious effects of pollution caused by industries, vehicles, air conditioners, refrigerators etc. As a result, we require more medicines and sophisticated treatments to fight off these effects.

One of the ways we can fight these effects and thereby keep our bodies more healthy and attractive looking is by taking good care of our skin. The beauty and cosmetics industry has responded to our efforts at skin care by providing a vast array of skin care products, some of which are aimed directly at men.

Skin care products for men come in a wide variety and are useful in protecting the skin from the two major sources of skin damage: damage caused by overexposure to the sun and damage caused by atmospheric pollution. Skin care products for men include balms, creams, gels, moisturizers, sprays, sun blocks, tanning lotions etc. The key is to buy the product that promotes the health of your skin and to avoid those products that can actually do more harm than good.

One way to be sure that you are buying a product that is actually beneficial to your skin is by consulting a skin specialist or dermatologist about the product before you use it. This is recommended in spite of the fact that many of these products are sold on a do-it-yourself basis. Some of the products can cause harmful reactions and irritations and a consultation with your dermatologist could help prevent such skin reactions.

Because of this heightened focus on our appearance and health, nowadays men as well as women take an interest in the importance of good skin care. Today, women are not the only ones who try to maintain a healthy, blemish-free, wrinkle-free complexion. As a result, products have been introduced onto the market that target men specifically. These products are designed to counter the effects of working in factories or other hazardous places, occupations more commonly held by men. The importance given to male models in catwalks at fashion parades had made even the average man more interested in skin care products.

Skin care products can be purchased just about anywhere, including the Internet. One should take care when purchasing from the Internet, however, because the efficacy of these products is not always guaranteed. The marketing of these products is sometimes misleading and the products they are selling can be more harmful than beneficial. Once again, before you purchase skin care products from the Internet, you should always consult your physician first to see what he or she recommends

Anti Aging Skincare

No matter what your age, it’s never too soon to begin to follow good skincare practices. A good skincare, anti-aging regimen will include the following tips:

1. Hot water dries the skin so you should always wash your face with lukewarm water rather than hot water. Your goal should be to seal in the moisture that is already in your skin. You can help accomplish this by cleaning your face with a non-foaming, soap-free cleanser. Lather up one time and then rinse thoroughly.

2. Exfoliate once a week using a grainy scrub. A monthly exfoliation done by a professional is a good idea too since professionals generally do a better job than you can on your own. Traditional microdermabrasion is also good for removing dead skin cells from the skin’s top layer.

3. Use a moisturizer daily. Good moisturizers contain hyaluronic acid, which helps draw in water. Also look for moisturizers containing antioxidants, Vitamin E and C, green tea and kinetin. Antioxidants are good at neutralizing wrinkle-causing free radicals caused by the sun, cigarette smoke, and pollution.

4. Use sunscreen religiously. You can either use a moisturizer that also offers sun protection or apply a sunscreen after you’ve applied your moisturizer. If you apply the sunscreen after the moisturizer, first wait until the moisturizer has been completely absorbed into your skin before you apply the sunscreen. After the sunscreen has been applied, you can then apply your makeup.

5. Apply an anti-aging cream, ointment, or serum each night. Two important ingredients in these creams to look for are alpha hyrdoxy acids and retinols. Look for a good concentration of AHA and a low PH. Retinols that don’t make you feel sunburned or irritate your skin are the best ones to use.

6. There are other good anti-aging ingredients to look for as well such as copper peptides (amino acids that heal wounds and help photoaging), kinetin (for people who can’t tolerate retinols), and human growth factors (believed to help reduce pigmentation).

7. If you have brown spots, try using a bleaching cream with hydroquinone (recommended by dermatologists). The latest ingredient in skincare is genistein, which is derived from soybeans. Laboratory research has shown that it reduces sun damage in mice that are exposed to UVA. Don't be tricked by labels that promise "soy". Look for products that specifically contain genistein.
